Feathery fun facts -->

Peacocks emit a low-frequency sound inaudible to human ears. Depending on whether they want to attract females from far away or up close, they can change the sound by shaking different parts of their feathers.

Only the males are actually "peacocks", although the collective term for these birds is "peafowl".The males are peacocks and the females are peahens. The babies are called peachicks. A family of peafowl is called a bevy.

▪▪▪ They don't have to be killed for their feathers! Luckily, the peacocks shed their train every year after mating season, so the #feathers can be gathered and sold without the birds coming to any harm. The average lifespan of a peacock in the wild is about 20 years.

▪▪▪ Unfortunately however, Peacocks are still killed for meat in Sri Lanka and #India where the meat is considered to give strength to the consumer 🤪😟

▪▪▪ Their feathers are covered in tiny Microscopic #crystal-like structures that reflect different #wavelengths of light depending on how they are spaced, resulting in bright #fluorescent colors.

Best in Asia list - Lonely Planet's No. 1

For this third annual Best in Asia list, Lonely Planet’s in-house Asia experts have named “eclectic” and “vibrant” Busan, South Korea, as the number one destination; while the jewelled architecture and ancient cities of Uzbekistan are in second place; and in third comes Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, “a supercity that somehow keeps getting cooler”.
“Asia is such a vast and diverse continent for anyone dreaming of an escape,” Lonely Planet’s Asia- Pacific Media Spokesperson, Chris Zeiher says. “Our experts have combed through thousands of recommendations to pick the best destinations to visit over the next 12 months”.
“From Nagasaki in Japan, to Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka,” Chris says, “this is a line-up to inspire a multitude of travellers – whether they’re based in Asia, or maybe they’ve already visited some of the region’s heavy-hitting destinations”.
